About Grange School
Grange also caters for students with more complex needs. There is provision in a dedicated unit for eighteen students who have Autistic Spectrum Conditions. Pupils within the ASC unit are included within the main school for part or all of their day in order to access the National Curriculum.
The school is divided into 3 departments:
Primary (Key Stage 2) age 7 - 11
Secondary (Key Stage 3 & 4) age 11 - 16
ASC Unit (Key Stage 2, 3 & 4)
Classes are grouped according to age, wherever possible, to ensure the delivery of an age-appropriate curriculum and to facilitate progression through the school.
All students who attend the Grange Academy have a Statement of Special Educational Needs which is the subject of an annual review. Bedford Borough Council is responsible for issuing statements and allocating placements in our school for students who reside in the Borough. We also receive students from neighbouring Local Authorities, eg Central Beds and Northampton. Grange has excellent examination results and most of our students leave us at the end of year 11 with impressive credentials. Our pupils typically continue their education at local colleges of education or seek employment with training.
In 2005 and 2008 Grange was described by Ofsted as "an outstanding school that provides a really good education." In 2012 it was deemed to be "good with outstanding features."
