Job Title: Senior Physicist Sector: Hi Tech Manufacturing Location: Paignton, Devon Salary: Negotiable - guidleine from £60K Senior Physicist: You will enjoy employing a breadth of skills across materials science and optoelectronics. The successful candidate will join a world leading electronics company, and apply broad physics based knowledge to solving specific challenges in the design and production of optoelectronic transmitters and receivers. Activities will include design of passive free-space and fibre optical components and also the selection and analysis of materials and material joining techniques for optical sub-assemblies. You will enjoy employing a breadth of skills across materials science and optoelectronics. The Company: You will join a global manufacturer of high tech electronic components who have a strong focus on research and development and have been at the forefront of their market for over three decades. The Role: - Design and tolerancing of miniature optical components from a range of commercially available materials using optical modelling software or other simulation tools - Prediction of optical coupling efficiencies for optical coupling to Indium Phosphide based optical integrated circuits (PICs) - Design of novel optical components for wavelength and optical signal control - Analysis of components and structures made from a variety of metals and ceramics to optimize thermal and mechanical stability and reliability - Assisting with the prediction of failure modes in designs during design review project phases Your Skills and Experience: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Degree with secondary qualification Minimum of 6 years' experience in an engineering or research KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: - Ability to mathematically model optical and physical systems to define key performance measures - Understanding of wave polarization, Gaussian and paraxial optics analysis - Wave propagation in materials and waveguides - Interest in polymers for adhesives applications would be desirable - Ability analyze complex situations and derive practical manufacturing solutions - Effective communication to team members and managers EXPERIENCE: - Working within a team environment - Track record of designs being realized - Use of software packages similar to Zemax,, MatLab, Maple, Comsol, Ansys etc BENEFITS Private Healthcare, Holiday Purchase, Pension contributions matched 3%, income protection, relocation package How to Apply: Send me a copy of your CV and I will call you back to discuss this role and your situation
