Java Developer/Exeter/6 months Contract The Met Office has a requirement for a skilled developer to work on our groundbreaking WeatherCloud in support of the Website and Phone Apps. As an experienced software developer you will work within an existing team as a senior developer to extend the current Met Office mobile website offering. You will be expected to share your knowledge with others in the team and to coach less experienced team members. Applicants will be expected to undergo a technical test in order to assess coding skill prior to appointment. Responsibilities Support, maintain and extend existing code on premise and in the cloud. Work with external suppliers to make changes to deployed code within the CMS Support, train and educate more junior team members, including initial training in the applicable technologies Work closely with release teams to ensure the secure delivery of fixes into the live environment Take responsibility and lead on smaller pieces of work, including planning, scoping and estimation Supervise the team in the absence of senior staff Fully engage with existing tools and processes to ensure visible reporting of effort and progress Essential Criteria Experience of delivering web applications. Strong understanding of mobile device technologies and requirements Understanding and experience of the application of usability and accessibility requirements to websites Strong Front End development skills JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5, Freemarker Evidence of an ability to participate effectively in a team environment and be able to work independently on allocated tasks. Skills: Required: Java, aws Nice to have: spring, boot, cucumber, unit testing. All contractor roles will be required to obtain a full national security status, either Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Security Clearance (SC). Listed below are the two main essential criteria for candidates requiring clearance and you must meet these criteria to be eligible to apply:- 1) To have resided in the UK for a minimum of two out of the last five years at one address or three out of the last five in the UK. Therefore, if the role is one that requires SC clearance and the candidate does not have the required UK residency, then it is unlikely that the candidate will be suitable to be considered for the role. 2) If candidates have resided overseas for a short period of time but are still eligible for SC clearance, then a police certificate may be requested from FCOS which the candidate will have to obtain themselves. This is just to show they have not had any criminal record whilst living abroad so the certificate must cover the whole period of this time.The candidate will be required to supply employment/education information within the last three years - any gaps during that time will be analysed.
