The MRC Cancer Unit (MRC CU) is a University Department situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It provides an outstanding environment for cancer research, supporting some 10 research groups and 100 bench scientists.

The MRC CU's focus is to conduct world-leading research to understand how cancers develop and seeks to translate this knowledge into new approaches for diagnosis and treatment. The unit is a key participant in the Cambridge Cancer Centre, providing an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with Cambridge colleagues in the biological, physical, chemical and engineering sciences.

Applications are invited to apply for a Research Assistant position within an established translational research programme headed by Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald, focusing on Oesophageal Carcinogenesis with a goal to better understand the molecular pathogenesis of the disease and hence to improve patient management.

The post-holder will work as part of a diverse team of scientists and clinicians. The job will provide an opportunity to contribute to cancer research with relevance to the clinic.

The successful candidate will hold a BSC (Hons) or equivalent in a Life Science or related subject. Applicants are expected to have previous lab experience including molecular biology and automated immunohistochemical staining. Good team-working, organisational and communication skills will also be essential. 

This is a fixed-term position funded by Cancer Research UK until 31 December 2017 with possibility for extension. The starting salary will be between £25,298 - £29,301pa Any offer of employment is subject to security screening.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2017 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
