Our client, a non for profit organisation based in Chalfont St Peter, is currently looking for a Temporary Medical Secretary (for 3 months) with experience working in a busy clinical environment.

The successful candidate will have good audio typing skills and a good understanding of medical terminology.

You will join a friendly team in a new, state of the art Research Centre to provide full medical secretarial support to the consultants.

Medical Secretarial duties

- To provide full secretarial (to include audio typing and digital transcribing)/administrative support to Medical Consultants
- Communicate regularly and effectively with each Consultant/GP to ensure they are briefed on needs of patient/doctors queries
- Ensure each set of clinical notes are checked to ensure appropriate file order and test results are filed correctly
- All new referrals to be date stamped and entered onto the relevant database within one working day
- Allocate new appointments to patients ensuring NHS Access standards are maintained
- Type all letters in a timely and accurate manner, ensure all digital transcription is uploaded to the patient records system and to send out by post within five working days
- Deal with any patient queries courteously and efficiently
- Maintain patient files, archiving as necessary and enter patient data into the Electronic Patient System

Reception duties

- To prepare medical records ensuring they are prepped prior to the outpatient clinic
- Each set of clinical notes to be checked whenever accessed to ensure in appropriate file order and test results are filed correctly
- To provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service to patients and visitors to Chalfont
- Ensure all patients booked in to the outpatient clinic have their details accurately logged on the appropriate IT system, and any change of personal details is updated

Person specification

Essential

- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent (A - C) to include English Language and Mathematics
- Relevant administrative experience
- Experienced as an audio-typist requiring use and understanding of medical terminology
- Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with difficult situations sensitively and appropriately
- Proven ability of use of MS office and databases
- Good organisational skills with a proven ability to prioritise

Desirable

- City & Guilds or AMSPAR Level 2 in Medical Administration
- BSMSA Certificate in Medical Secretarial Studies
