Award winning Cosmetics Manufacturer requires an R&D Chemist to contribute to the research and development of safe and stable new products to customer and legislative requirements to an agreed critical path. Ensure all aspects of formulation and method of manufacture are accurately documented, including customer supplied / outsourced products. · Develop products to meet customer and business requirements in line with critical paths. Not restricting innovation, where possible use existing raw materials. · Ensure all approved formulations are made by the R&D Chemist at least once to ensure formulation composition and method of manufacture pose no issues for production. · Ensure customer/sales samples comply with requirements of the brief, target cost, and market and are professionally presented at all times. Ensure any lead-time, shelf life and MOQ issues are raised and costed for. · Develop and maintain strong and reliable relationships with key customer contacts. · Ensure all associated product information e.g. submission sheets, technical data and specifications are accurate and professional and are submitted to customer within agreed timescales · Establish contingency plans to allow for test failures and ensure no adverse effect on development critical path · Ensure new materials, techniques and processes are reviewed, tested and used where a benefit is measurable e.g. performance, marketing claim, cost. · Ensure factory trials / first production run (bulk manufacture and filling) is monitored for compliance with agreed quality specification, method of manufacture/assembly, safety and follow through any action points · Understand industry regulations and all legal/customer requirements and compliance issues. Ensure that formulated products conform to these requirements/checked for compliance and where applicable do not infringe any patents. · Have a good understanding of all raw materials and their function within a formula. · Have a good working relationship with all external raw material suppliers and organise regular meetings. Ensure suppliers are updated on raw materials presented / supplied Attend SCS formulate and any other relevant trade shows/exhibitions where possible. · Be able to identify key raw material suppliers and establish formulating capabilities and work with them to support in new customer / project developments. Take advantage of what they can offer to help support the R&D Team. · Always thinking of ideas to improve current ways of working. Write work instructions under guidance from Senior Chemist/Technical Manager. · Where required be involved in any new innovation projects, working closely with the Technical Manager Strategic Projects / Technical Manager.
